Planning for Seniors:

- Begin to determine which school or career choice would be best for you
- Start applying to schools you are interested in. Watch deadlines!
- Polish your resume and obtain letters of recommendation
- Scholarship appliacations can be obtained in the guidance office, on-line or from financial aid departments at colleges
- After January 1st, get FAFSA filled out and sent in
- Fight Senioritis!
- Always follow up after sending in applications for employment or school admission.
- Enjoy your senior year and be proud of your accomplishments!


Planning for Juniors:

- Start making decisions... what do you want to do after High School? College or work? Where do you want to live etc... see Mrs. Dieken to help answer these questions!
- Start doing some research on colleges
- Start doing some research on careers
- Keep your grades up!
- register to take the PSAT (espcially if you are interested in National Merit Scholar
- Attend the UNI College Fair
- Plan to take the ACT this year, many people end up taking it twice so plan accordingly
- Make sure your class schedule is meeting all the requirements for graduation and college admission



Planning for Sophomores:

- When you schedule for classes, think about the classes that might fit best with your intersts so you can build your skills
- Start thinking about what you might want to do after High School and plan accordingly when you sign up for classes
- Continue to explore interests and careers. See Mrs. Dieken if you haven't taken the SDS
- Continue to be involved in school acitivies
- Keep your grades up
- Ask for help. If there are things going on that are interfering with school success, stop in and talk to Mrs. Dieken or a trusted adult.


Planning for Freshmen:

- This is one of the most important years of High School. You set the tone for yourself now with study habits and your reputation. Make choices wisely!
- Start to think about what classes you might be interested in for future scheduling.
- Start to think about what you are most interested in and use these ideas to guide your choices
- Keep your grades up
- See Mrs. Dieken right away if you are struggling or anxious about suceeding. There are lots of ways that we can help you!
- Become involved in school activities. These can be priceless for not only making friends, but for future resume building.

THE NEW COLLEGE ADMISSTION STANDARD- REGENT ADMISSION INDEX

This will start with the 2009 graduates- so when you are applying for college, this means YOU!!Calculating the RAI:

2 x ACT composite score

+ high school percentile rank

+ 20 x high school GPA

+ 5 x number of core courses complete


= RAI score

Example:

48 (2 x 24 ACT composite)

+ 75 (percentile rank=75%)

+ 70 (20x3.5 GPA)

+ 90 (5x18 core courses)


= 283 RAI
